Room for Ack-nowledgement
I had my first mammogram yesterday—no need for concern, just a weird non-thing that needed checked out.
It was okay, if it a little painful.
The little room with the machine is such a strange space. I just started to think about all the fear and uncertainly and vulnerability that had been felt in this tiny little bright pink room with a boob squisher in it. I almost lost my shit, just...
Postcard season again
I would like more postcards for my birthday, if I may be so bold.
Box 92 Dawson City Y0B 1G0 Cost of a stamp: 59 cents Value of something in the mailbox that’s not a bill: feeling like a million bucks.
Also, I always send one back. PROMS.

A question that has probably already been...
Can I ask a question about these ‘hipstamatic’ images? Dumb app name aside, I don’t understand why photographers and artists I respect embrace the “fake film” look of these photos. To me, it seems like if you want a film effect, shoot with film (I know that’s more expensive, but why take shortcuts when you’re making art?) I’m not saying the images...

Margaret Atwood X Carol Auf →
I don’t really love Margaret Atwood’s writing, but this is well worth listening to for a sense of feminism and the Canadian literary scene in the 1950s and ’60s. “At Coles Bookstore Fifth Business by Robertson Davies was filed in the business section.”

“In the early 1980s, the Naval Investigative Service was investigating homosexuality in the Chicago area. Agents discovered that gay men sometimes referred to themselves as “friends of Dorothy.” Unaware of the historical meaning of the term, the NIS believed that a woman named Dorothy was at the center of a massive ring of homosexual military personnel. The NIS launched an...
Okay, I know there are far worse problems to have
but I just Iost the hi-res versions of everything I have photographed, drawn and recorded in the past year, and it’s going to cost me $200 just to get my machine back with no info (i’m typing this on a 4 year old laptop that doesn’t work unless it’s plugged into the wall.) I’ve lost at least 5 hoursof untranscribed interviews that pertain to the current issue of my...
HARD DRIVE DIED. LOST 3 TAPED INTERVIEWS AND A WHOLE BUNCH of scanned art half projects/ etc etc…. YES I KNOW I SHOULD BACK UP EVERY DAY.
FUCK.
I’m going to cry now and not drink a lot of beer ever though that feels like the right thing to do.
Here’s a not-very-good video to give an idea of the speed of the river.
Incredible interview with Richard Holloway on CBC →
Mary Hynes of CBC Radio One’s Tapestry talks to Richard F. Holloway, the former Bishop of Edinburgh for the Scottish Episcopal Church. Holloway’s progressive views caused him to resign from his position in 2000, especially in light of his 1999 book, Godless Morality: Keeping Religion out of Ethics, which makes a very convincing argument that religion often interferes with human...

Could you either
a) explain me something difficult-to-understand usuing a widget factory as an analogy
b) build me an online widget that turns difficult-to-understand concepts into explanatory analogies utlizing a widget factory as a stand-in?
Far Side Cartoon - "Cat Fud" click for image. →
( via philk:) (via magicallybabelicious:)
One of my favorites.
I have been looking for this one for ages. None of Gary Larson’s cartoons are supposed to be on the Internet, by his specific request, so this is a little blasphemous and I’ll be morally questionable and just link to the cartoon rather than reblog it.
Morality and copyright aside, I love this one particularly...

The New York Times Magazine’s 6th Floor Blog points us to this comparison of a 2000 DFW story draft with its finished version (published in last week’s New Yorker). File it away for your next long read; it’s interesting.

time for more postcards.
I have most of your addresses. I need a theme though… Suggestions below?
I am stoned confession of the night
I always imagine the lyrics to the theme song of America’s Next Top Model to be
”Modely Modelling Models! Mod’ly Mod’lling Models!” instead of “Nananananana! nananananana!”

Need some good driving 600km in the Yukon Winter...
recommendations, please?
Driving with a cat?
I have to drive 6 hours north. Any tips? Do they need a litter box or can they hold it? IN a kennel? Keep in mind it will be cold as f*ck outside. I
I also have my dog, so I guess the cat would have to go in a kennel. I’ve never driven longer than 30 minutes with a cat in the car, suggestions welcome.
